Nikki is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the state of Alabama. She is also a 27 yr military spouse with ties the military as far back as her childhood, when she was born at Martin Army Hospital at Fort Benning, GA. In addition to her traditional training as a social worker, she has also earned her veteran and military mental health certification, is a developer of this program, and is a reintegration specialist.
This is her why:
Being from a military town, especially the Home of the Infantry, gave me a unique perspective that is hard to replicate. One week to the day following the 9/11 attacks, I made my first BIG move as a military spouse. That is when I actually grew up. That is when everything I thought I understood as a child in a military town fell to the wayside. For the past 27 years I’ve been married to the military and I wouldn’t trade one day of it. Even after my husband’s retirement, he has continued to serve this country as both a contractor in Afghanistan and at Ft. Rucker. For over 30 years he has known nothing but military life and he wouldn’t trade a day of it either. Being in private practice, I work with active duty military, veterans, and their families on a daily basis and it is my absolute honor to do so. I understand the confusion, fear, and uncertainty that not only the solider, but also the family faces when it is time to take off those boots for the last time. This is a crucial time to ensure mental health needs are met, and for some service members it will be the first time they’ve been able to make it a priority. After all the years of putting yourself last, it is time to put yourself first. Thank you allowing me to be a part of this very important and much deserved phase of life.
